-The EF81 type is an electric locomotive that was introduced in 1968 and supports 50Hz DC/AC and 60Hz AC.
-Vehicles after Unit 137 appeared with a canopy on the front window, and Units 133 to 136 were also retrofitted later.
- The EF81 type owned by JR East has changed the paint color from rose pink to red No. 2, and some vehicles have been remodeled to be equipped with a double-headed coupler.
- Also, from around 2022, the electric heating indicator light on the side of the car body will be removed.
- The EF81 type owned by JR East was once active in towing many regular passenger trains such as [Hokutosei] [Akebono], but now it is towing special trains such as special group trains [Cassiopeia Travel] and is active in towing distribution trains
