The 215 series is a suburban train introduced in 1993. To increase seating capacity and provide seated services, all cars except the lead car are double-decker. The car body is based on the Saro 212 and 213 series of the 211 series, with two cars at each end of the formation serving as powered cars. Of the intermediate cars, two are Green Cars. Four 10-car sets were introduced and were active on the Tokaido Line's "Shonan Liner" and "Ohayo Liner," as well as the Chuo Line's "Holiday Rapid View Yamanashi," but all were retired with the timetable revision in March 2021.
