The human torpedo (Kaiten), in which the crew acts as the eye of the torpedo and dares to ram the enemy ship, was made in a short period of about five months from March 19, when the war situation deteriorated. The engine and propulsion of the Type 93 torpedo, which the Navy was proud of in the world at the time, were diverted as they were, and had an explosive charge of 1,500 kg, twice that of a torpedo, and a range that allowed a launch attack from outside the range of enemy torpedoes. At first, several attacks were carried out on the premise that they would be launched from submarines, but launch bases were set up on the mainland as well along the coast where enemy landings were expected.
