――The EF81 type appeared in 1968 as an electric locomotive that supports DC and AC 50 / 60Hz, and is playing an active role as a standard type of AC / DC machine. The final expansion cars after Unit 137 had eaves on the front window as an operational measure on the Joetsu Line, and some of the cars that appeared without eaves were later remodeled to the same appearance. A part of the EF81 type belonging to the Nagaoka Rolling Stock Center became the appearance of Red No. 2 and was active in the sleeper limited express [Hokuriku] and some freight train towing. Some cars were later equipped with a double-headed coupler and are now used for train forwarding, etc.
