The 209-1000 series was introduced in 1999 as an additional number of trains stopping at each station on the Joban Line.
The car body is based on the 209-500 series, and is characterized by a change in the front mask by installing an emergency door for direct subway access, and a straight body similar to that of the 0 series.
With the introduction of green cars of the E233 series on the Chuo Line, commercial operation began in 2019 in order to secure remodeled spare cars.
Since the car is very different from the E233 series, it is mainly limited to the Chuo Line (Tokyo ~ Takao).
